Describe a time when you acted like the owner of your company?

While I was in the Administration Department at American Airlines, DFW, I saw the need for several different process improvements. I knew that I was a change agent and that not everyone would like the recommended changes. I needed to gather resources both from a people and money standpoint. I needed to maintain a leadership role as well as create a team in order to implement these plans successfully.

1. I worked with a team to justify PC’s for the office. Up to this point, SABRE terminals were utilized to communicate.

I needed to help create a system to utilize our personnel more efficiently. I found subject matter experts that could analyze our current process. We created and utilized a specialized program in SABRE to move data from Paradox into SABRE STARS. This process had previously been completed manually and was manpower intensive.

2. I also observed that Maternity Leaves were not being handled properly. Individual Pay issues arose on a daily basis.

I created a Maternity Leave package and process that created awareness of the issues and methods of tracking and completing mandatory issues. This included an educational document for all levels of employees while ensuring I reduced payroll issues.

In both cases, I analyzed the current and future state by creating a vision. I created a marketing plan including communication plan and business case to justify the necessary expenditures and changes of process. I determined the cost and ROI of the solution. I also assessed the value of the project and the priority compared to the other projects in progress. I then sold my plan and obtained buy-in. I created the process and training documentation. I trained the individual supervisor's first. I reduced maternity leave issues to 0. There were no PA issues once the new process was implemented.

I was able to succeed because I created a team of individuals that supported the idea and implemented it with me. I prioritized the projects comparing them to the existing projects to ensure the best use of our funding and resolved conflict when it arose during the development of the new processes.
